Get Rid of Bed Bugs

What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are parasitic insects that are an ever-increasing pest problem. They are found throughout the U.S. and right here in Georgia. They are flat and oval in shape and are reddish in color; they feed on the blood of mammals and prefer human blood. Bed bugs are about ¼ of an inch in length, which is about the size of an apple seed. They are mainly nocturnal and will feed on their unaware hosts while they are sleeping.

Are bed bugs dangerous?

Bed bugs are considered a nuisance pest because they are not known to transmit any diseases to humans. Their bites can cause some people to develop small red bumps or welts that are clustered together; other people do not show any allergic reaction to the bites at all. Medical professionals should be contacted if the bites become infected. Though they do not harm people or damage property, bed bug infestations can lead to significant stress and cause embarrassment. They can also be quite detrimental to hotels and other commercial lodgings and facilities when they infest.

Why do I have bed bug problems?

Bed bugs travel from place to place by hitchhiking on different hosts. By hitchhiking they can cover large distances, which is made easier by the affordability of mass transit. They will generally gain access to your home on luggage, bags, furniture, and clothing that have been exposed to an infestation. Bed bugs can also be introduced to people. Bed bug problems are not contained to low-budget motels or dirty homes but are a problem for every income bracket and can infest all types of residential homes, apartment complexes, hotels, and other commercial facilities.

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Once bed bugs infest a home or business they are extremely difficult to eliminate without a professional bed bug exterminator. At Monitor Pest Control, we offer heat and steam treatments along with other bed bug treatments to completely eliminate these pests from your property.

Can I do it myself?

To completely get rid of bed bugs and not have a re-infestation occur, you need to make sure that every bed bug is found and eradicated. They are mostly active at night making it hard to exactly know where they are all hiding. Their small size and flat bodies make it easy for bed bugs to hide in very small cracks and crevices in mattresses, headboards, behind picture frames, and other pieces of furniture. Also, common pesticides that have worked in the past to kill bed bugs are no longer as effective against them. Your best action to take is as soon as you see signs of a bed bug infestation, contact Monitor Pest Control.
