5 Bed Bug Hiding Places You Probably Never Think About

Bed bugs are often found in and around the bed, as their name suggests. Most people think to look in and under their mattress, around the nightstand, or the rug on the floor.

But these tiny pests take a liking to many more places than just the bedroom. They love to travel, and they do it well. There are many strange places that bed bugs love to hang out in that many people don’t even think about.

While they may seem tiny and harmless, they’re a dangerous nuisance that carries harmful bacteria, and they can multiply quickly and take over your home at a rapid pace. If they’re not dealt with by an experienced professional, it could be detrimental to your health.

The team here at Monitor Pest Control cares about our customers’ safety and their education on identifying bed bugs and where you can find them. We’ve put together a quick list of odd spots where bed bugs frequent.

Buses

Public transportation is a hot spot for bed bugs. They love to be where people and clothes are, and city buses and subway cars are the perfect place for that. If you’re someone who takes public transportation on a regular basis, it’s important to regularly wash your clothes and double check for any critters that might be lingering around.

Wheelchairs

Hospitals and medical facilities are very susceptible to bed bugs. They love to hide inside the nooks and crannies of wheelchairs, especially ones that have been used often in a short period of time. If you’ve been to the hospital recently, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, make sure to double check your clothes, bags, and any item that you brought to the hospital with you.

Purses

A bed bug isn’t the most ideal shopping buddy to have, but they take a liking to the seams and the dark corners of purses. Please make sure to regularly clean your purse, and if you ever place it on the ground, take a look around inside the purse before you leave.

Airplanes

Yep, they take flight, too. Bed bugs burrow in seats, carpet, vents, and small compartments in airplanes. If you’ve just recently come back from a trip, wash your clothes immediately and clean out your luggage.

Fluorescent light bulbs

Bed bugs are infamous for being pests that prefer the darkness, but a lot of people don’t realize that they enjoy fluorescent light bulbs. They have plenty of room around the bulbs, and have zero problem squeezing in. When replacing your bulbs, check around the bulb and in the corners for any sneaky critters who might want to make you their next landing spot.
