Camel Crickets

Camel Crickets

What is a camel cricket?

Camel crickets, also known as spider crickets, are wingless insects with legs that resemble a spider. Camel crickets have also been referred to as cave crickets and cave wetas. These crickets can range from ¾ an inch to 1 ½ inches in length and their humpbacked bodies have earned them their fitting name. Camel crickets can range from very light tan to dark brown and they are easily recognizable by their distinguished, long antennae. Camel crickets have no wings and therefore cannot chirp, so if you are hearing cricket noises in your home it is not this species of cricket.

Are camel crickets dangerous?

Camel crickets are not known to bite and they do not pose serious threats to our homes. However, these insects are capable of damaging stored items when in search of a suitable food source. These stored items may include garments or linens. With a heavy infestation, you may notice fecal smears on surfaces in the home.

Why do I have a cave cricket problem?

In the wild, these pests are drawn to cool, damp, and dark places, which is why a common name for these crickets is “cave crickets”. When a camel cricket invades your home it is most likely in pursuit of an area similar to that of a cave. These pests may choose to abide in your basements, crawl spaces, bathrooms, and even garages.

How to get rid of spider crickets?

Camel crickets, like many other pests, can be extremely difficult to get rid of without the help of a qualified professional. If you are struggling with camel crickets on your Georgia property, a pest expert should be contacted right away to help you achieve and maintain a pest-free environment.

Can I do it myself?

The majority of do-it-yourself methods that incorporate the use of pesticides are not only ineffective, but they can be a danger to your household if not handled and executed properly. Once a pest infestation has occurred, preventative measures will not cure the problem either. Contacting an All-American pest professional will help in the quick location and eradication of this pest.
