Clover Mites

What are clover mites?

Clover mites are very small, only about 1/30 of an inch in length, which is smaller than a pinhead. They belong to the arachnid family and therefore have eight legs with the front pair being much longer than the others and protruding from their head; they are oval in shape and reddish-brown in color. The adults are very lethargic appearing and slow-moving.

Are clover mites dangerous?

Clover mites are considered to be nuisance pests; they do not bite or pass diseases to humans. They do, however, invade in very large numbers and can get into curtains, linens, and furniture and can cause irritation in some people.

Why do I have a clover mite problem?

Clover mites generally live outside and feed on plants. In our region, they are mainly a problem during the spring and summer months when they are often seen inside around window sills.  During the fall and winter months, they’re hardly seen.  They will gain access to the inside of your home through cracks and crevices around windows and doors and in foundations.

Can I do it myself?

Getting rid of clover mites can be difficult because of their large numbers and their ability to hide in many areas of the home. Using DIY insecticides from the big box stores can be dangerous to you, your family, and your pets if they are not mixed or used properly. If you find yourself with a clover mite infestation, your best bet is to call the professionals at Monitor Pest Control.

Why choose Monitor Pest Control?

With over 25 years of experience, we know the time, effort, and commitment it takes to solve your clover mite problem. With Monitor Pest Control, you’ll receive trained professionals, serious commitment, and thorough treatments.

How can I prevent clover mite infestations in the future?

To prevent a clover mite infestation you should make sure that long grass and weeds are kept trimmed away from your home. Also, clover mites do not like to cross rough bare soil or mulch areas, so making a strip of mulch or stones between the grass or garden and your home will deter them. Also be sure you’ve completely sealed windows, doors, and foundations.  Good prevention for clover mites is a regular exterior application like our Once Per Year Pest Control Application
