What are clover mites?

Clover mites are very small, only about 1/30 of an inch in length, which is smaller than a pinhead. They belong to the arachnid family and therefore have eight legs with the front pair being much longer than the others and protruding from their head; they are oval in shape and reddish-brown in color. The adults are very lethargic appearing and slow-moving.

Are clover mites dangerous?

Clover mites are considered to be nuisance pests; they do not bite or pass diseases to humans. They do, however, invade in very large numbers and can get into curtains, linens, and furniture and can cause irritation in some people.

Why do I have a clover mite problem?

Clover mites generally live outside and feed on plants. In our region, they are mainly a problem during the spring and summer months when they are often seen inside around window sills.  During the fall and winter months, they’re hardly seen.  They will gain access to the inside of your home through cracks and crevices around windows and doors and in foundations.
