5 Brilliant Tips to Keep Ants Out of Your Home

Springtime is here, and summer is just a few weeks away. Warmer weather is coming, and unfortunately so are ants.

This is the time of year when people start Google searching “pest control near me,” because pests are running rampant in the spring and summer. If you’ve got ants invading your kitchen, it’s one of the most irritating problems that you can have at this time of year. They love to hang around your sugary foods and contaminate everything in your cabinet.

Monitor Pest Control understands how irritating this can be, which is why we’ve put together a list of five tips to keep ants out of your house forever.

1) Seal With Caulk. Ants can find the smallest of cracks in the foundations of your home and crawl through them. You need to search for these cracks all around your house and seal them off with caulk. Not only will that keep the ants away, but it’ll help you control the temperature in your house and lower your energy bill over time.

2) Clean your home with vinegar, lemon, and peppermint oil. Ants can’t stand certain scents. Vinegar, lemon, and peppermint oil are a few of those. Disinfect your home with these smells and clean especially well around the cracks that you think ants enter from.

3) Spread used coffee grounds around your home. Ants are not the coffee type. Who knew? Not only will coffee grounds deter them from entering your home, but they’re also beneficial for the soil in your garden and around the flower beds of your home. They provide nutritional value for your soil. Spread coffee grounds around those areas.

4) Use dish soap. Spread a thin line of dish soap around windows, doors and other places where ants might enter, because ants hate it. If you see an ant hill around, be sure to pour dish soap on it and drive them away, so they’ll set up camp elsewhere.

5) Use Vaseline. It turns out that Vaseline has more benefits besides keeping your skin healthy. Spread Vaseline around the entryways that ants use to drive them out. You’ll never see them again after that.
