8 Common Winter Bugs in Georgia

We’re lucky to live in a place where winters are mild. Georgia’s temperatures don’t dip too low and we don’t usually have to worry about snow. While it is mild, some bugs are less of a nuisance but there are winter bugs to watch out for, too.

We typically look for mosquitos, flies, and roaches in the summer. Our pest control clients typically call us about ladybugs, spiders, roaches, stink bugs, and more in the winter. Sometimes winter is an even busier pest control season! Since bugs are cold-blooded, cold temperatures can kill them. Insects will look for food and warmth inside your home. That’s where we come in.

Common Winter Bugs in Georgia

  • Silverfish – These aptly named silver crawlers are most active in the fall and winter. They need humidity, but not food, to survive for long periods.
  • Stink Bugs – You’ll find these odorous insects hiding in a warm spot for the winter.
  • Termites – Yard waste like piles of leaves and firewood can invite these wood-eating pests looking for a warm place to spend their winter.
  • Cockroaches – Roaches are a very common, constant pest we deal with. They’re looking for food and warmth just like the other bugs on this list.
  • Bed Bugs – Traveling, hotel beds and cold make these pests more prevalent in winter.
  • Beetles – You’ll find winter beetles keeping warm in the cracks of crevices while they hibernate over winter.
  • Spiders – Spiders are another constant battle, but common in winter, as they too look for warmth.
