What are springtails?
Springtails are a type of arthropod; they are very tiny, only reaching about the size of a pinhead. They are wingless,
gray to purple in color and their elongated body is covered in tiny protective scales. Springtails crawl very slowly but have
a unique way to jump short distances: they have a fork-like structure that is attached to its hind end and they can fold it under
their body and they then release it, projecting them forward.
Are springtails dangerous?
Springtails do not bite or sting humans and pose no danger. They may cause damage to some young plants. They do
not cause any damage to the structure of homes if they enter them.
Why do I have a springtail problem?
Springtails develop and live in areas of moist soil. Springtails will look to migrate inside homes in the hot dry summer months when
soil tends to dry out. Once inside they will be found in areas with a lot of moisture such as the bathroom and kitchen. House plant soil
that you purchase from the store may already be infested with springtails which will introduce the pests into your home.

more individuals will constantly be migrating. Insecticides do not appear to be very effective against them; springtails seem to have some
resistance. If you find yourself with a springtail problem, contact Monitor Pest Control for quick effective treatment against these pests.

How can I prevent a springtail problem in the future?
Since springtails need a moist environment to live in, reducing moist areas by your home may help to keep them away. Another tactic may
be to actually create a moist environment away from your home that they will be drawn to. Also, make sure that windows and doors are properly
sealed and that any cracks in your home’s foundation have been sealed.
