Fire Ants can be mistaken for regular ants; they are reddish brown to black in color with a cooper colored head and are 1/10 – ¼ of an inch in length. They are a very aggressive species of ant that will run towards a disturbance of their nest and deliver a very painful sting.

Fire ants have a stinger on their abdomen that injects venom into their victim. In humans the pain is similar to that felt after being burned, usually a red welt will appear after being stung; while rare some individuals can have a severe allergic reaction that can lead to death. They are drawn towards electrical equipment and can ruin tractors, lawn mowers and if make their way indoors can chew through electrical wires and insulation.
